Paul, an Atlanta native, graduated from the University of Georgia in 1971 with honors in the top 5% of his class with a BBA in Accounting.
Over his 40+year career, he has been primarily in the Real Estate business, initially brokering, syndicating and owning land in the 70’s. From over speculation, the land business disintegrated in the late 70’s. In the early 80’s with federal income tax rates as high as 70%, Paul accumulated thousands of apartments by creating an innovative tax shelter to fill a void when legislation in 1976 eliminated all of the then popular tax shelters. By 1985, with a new wave of speculation peaking, Paul liquidated all of his real estate holdings at the top of the market.
In 1986, when the real estate market once again tanked, Paul moved into the venture capital business. From this, Paul was involved in starting computer learning centers, paint manufacturing, restaurants and more recently was a founding partner of Floor & Decor, a hard surface super store retail concept. F&D is now public approaching 200 stores coast to coast.
By 1990, Paul, looking for something fun to do, started developing beach front luxury resorts, primarily in the Destin, Walton County, 30-A Florida market. These include Hidden Dunes, Grand Villas, Grand Harbor and the, Grand Dunes, two 20-story non-rental luxury towers.
Paul, from seeing movies as a kid, like Eloise at the Plaza, always fantasized about living on top of a hotel. In 2003, he had the opportunity to make his dream come true and became the lead partner in creating and developing his vision of a luxury In-town Resort, the St. Regis Atlanta Hotel and Residences. At the start of 2015, Paul and his wife, Viki, finally moved into his dream home at the St. Regis Residences.
Paul now serves as a senior advisor to Freeman Partners which allows him to enjoy traveling, playing golf, and making memories with his friends and family.
